Connectivity and resolution support

This Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.4 cable links devices with Mini DP or Thunderbolt 2 ports to standard DisplayPort monitors. It carries 8K at 60 Hz, 4K at 144 Hz and 2K at 240 Hz with a 32.4 Gbps bandwidth. HDR and G-Sync signals pass through without compression.

Installation and common issues

Plug the Mini DP end into the source and the full-size DP end into the display; the latch on the DisplayPort connector secures the link. To disconnect, press the release tab before pulling. Gold-plated contacts, bare copper conductors and foil-plus-braid shielding reduce interference and corrosion.

Ideal uses and limitations

Suits owners of MacBook, Surface, ThinkPad, Dell XPS, HP Envy, Asus ZenBook, Acer, Intel NUC or Chromebook models listed in the compatibility data who need high-refresh 4K or 8K output. Not for users whose source only offers HDMI, USB-C alt-mode without Mini DP, or legacy VGA and DVI ports. Buyers needing longer runs should verify signal integrity for their specific resolution.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the cable is delivering 3840x2160 at 60Hz after connecting my MacBook Pro to a monitor?

Open System Settings > Displays on macOS and confirm the external monitor shows 3840x2160 @ 60Hz; on Windows right-click the desktop, choose Display settings and check that the resolution reads 3840x2160 with a 60Hz refresh rate.

What comes in the box and do I need any adapters for a Surface Pro 4?

The package contains only the 6ft Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.4 cable with gold-plated connectors and a latch on the full-size DisplayPort end; no extra adapters are required for a Surface Pro 4 because its Mini DisplayPort port matches the cable directly.

Should I choose this 6ft version or a different length for a Dell XPS 15 setup?

This 6ft length suits typical desk distances between a Dell XPS 15 and an external monitor; if the display sits farther away you would need a longer cable, while a shorter run could use a 3ft cable instead.
