65 ft Steel Fish Tape

The Klein Tools 56002 is a 65-foot flat steel fish tape designed for electricians pulling wire through conduit. Its 1/8 by 0.062 inch profile fits tight raceways while maintaining the stiffness needed for long runs. The rotating polypropylene winder case keeps the tape organized on the job site.

Manual Winding and Heat Resistance

The hand-operated rotating case requires no external power, so there is no motor noise or electrical draw to manage. Steel construction tolerates the ambient temperatures found in typical residential and commercial installations. The flat profile reduces friction against conduit walls during extended pulls.

Increment Markings and Case Durability

One-foot increment markings printed on the rod let the installer gauge pull distance without a separate measuring tool. The orange polypropylene case resists impact and chemical exposure common in electrical work. A black handle provides a secure grip while feeding or retrieving the tape.

Questions about this item

How do I feed the 65 ft steel tape through conduit without it binding?

Pull the tape straight from the rotating polypropylene case, keeping the 1/8 in by .062 in flat profile aligned with the conduit curve; the step most people miss is feeding it by hand at the entry point instead of letting the case spin freely.

What part of the 56002 fish tape wears out first with repeated pulls?

The 1 ft increment markings on the steel rod wear off before the tape itself fails, and the rotating case hinge can loosen after heavy daily use.

At what distance does the 1/8 in steel tape start to resist pushing in long runs?

Friction builds steadily with each bend, so beyond the middle of the 65 ft length the tape pushes harder against conduit walls and requires intermediate access boxes to continue.
