  • Compatible with PCs, printers, external drives and more USB peripherals

Purpose and audience

This USB 3.0 extension cable adds 6.6 ft of reach between a host computer and standard peripherals such as printers, external hard drives, mice or keyboards. It suits home or office users who need to position devices farther from the PC without replacing existing cables. It is not for buyers who need a USB-C connection or a shorter fixed-length cord.

Deciding specification

The cable supports USB 3.0 data rates up to 5 Gbps, which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0, so large files such as high-definition videos and photos transfer quickly. Gold-plated connectors and shielding protect the signal from electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference during those transfers. If your workflow only requires USB 2.0 speeds, this bandwidth will not be the limiting factor.

What the bundle changes

The package supplies a single A male to A female cable in the 6.6 ft length; other lengths such as 3.3 ft, 10 ft, 12 ft, 15 ft, 20 ft and 25 ft are sold separately. No software, adapters or mounting hardware are included, so the only change to your setup is the extra reach and the maintained high-speed performance.

Questions about this item

What does the 5 Gbps rating mean when the cable is connected to a computer and an external hard drive?

It sets the theoretical ceiling at 5 Gbps, which is ten times the USB 2.0 rate, so large files such as high-definition videos move noticeably faster than on a 2.0 link.

Which USB standard does the A Male to A Female connector follow, and what speed does that standard limit the cable to?

The connector follows the USB 3.0 specification, which caps the link at 5 Gbps regardless of the port generation on either end.

How much clearance is needed to route the 6.6 ft cable behind a desk or along a baseboard?

The cable is 6.6 ft long and uses standard USB-A plugs, so it fits through typical cable-management channels and behind furniture without requiring special brackets.
