Purpose and Audience

The Gefen EXT-DVI-EDIDN is an external video capturing device that preserves display EDID data when monitors are disconnected or switched. It suits AV integrators and IT professionals who need reliable DVI signal continuity in multi-display or KVM environments.

Thermals Noise and Power

The compact 1.2 by 2.6 by 1.7 inch enclosure operates without active cooling, so it adds no audible noise to the rack. A supplied 5V power supply handles all power draw, keeping the unit cool during continuous operation.

Build Integration

The device connects inline via DVI Dual Link using the included one-foot male-to-male cable and supports resolutions up to 3840 by 2400. It frees the host computer from resolution loss after display changes, but it does not convert signals or add extra video outputs.

Questions about this item

How do I install the EXT-DVI-EDIDN and which step is often missed?

Connect the included 1-foot DVI dual-link cable from your source to the device, then attach the 5 V power supply; the step users skip is powering the unit before the computer boots, so the EDID is present at start-up.

What maintenance or replacement will the EXT-DVI-EDIDN need over time?

The device has no moving parts or consumable filters; only the external 5 V power supply or the DVI cable may need replacement if they fail.

What limit appears first when the EXT-DVI-EDIDN runs continuously at high resolution?

The maximum supported resolution is 3840 x 2400; sustained operation at that rate is limited by the single-link DVI bandwidth and the external power adapter's thermal rating.
