Koss UR40 Over-Ear Headphone

The Koss UR40 is a circumaural stereo headphone built around a lightweight folding frame and a fixed 4 ft cord ending in a gold-flashed 3.5 mm plug. Screened ear cups give an open, hear-through presentation while leatherette cushions seal around the ears for stronger bass response. At just over 6 oz the set is designed for all-day portable listening without fatigue.

Listeners who want open awareness and easy storage

This model suits commuters, office workers and students who need to hear announcements or conversations while music plays and who value a headset that collapses into a small bag. Buyers seeking active noise cancellation, wireless freedom or a detachable cable for replacement or upgrade should look at other designs because the UR40 has none of those features.

60 ohm impedance and 98 dB sensitivity

The 60 ohm input impedance and 98 dB SPL per milliwatt sensitivity mean the headphones reach high volume cleanly from low-voltage sources such as phones, tablets and laptops without a separate amplifier. If your source has very high output impedance or you plan to drive the headphones from professional studio gear that expects a much lower or higher load, verify compatibility before purchasing.

Questions about this item

How does the 60 ohm input impedance affect all-day listening comfort?

The 60 ohm impedance pairs well with portable players, so the headphones reach satisfying volume without straining the source or your ears during extended sessions.

Will the open, hear-through ear cups leak sound in a quiet office after hours of use?

Screened ear cups let ambient noise in and your audio out, so people nearby will hear what you are playing during long listening periods.

Does the 3.5 mm gold-flashed plug work straight from my phone or do I need an adapter?

The standard 3.5 mm connector plugs directly into any device with a matching jack; no adapter is required unless your phone lacks a headphone socket.
