Dual serial-to-Ethernet gateway

The Lantronix UD2100002-01 is a 2-port device server that connects equipment with DB-9 serial ports to a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network. It targets integrators and facility managers who need to bring legacy machinery, meters or controllers onto IP infrastructure without replacing them. Two serial channels share one RJ-45 uplink, so a single network drop serves both devices.

Sustained serial throughput

Each DB-9 port handles continuous data rates from 300 bps up to 921 Kbps while the Ethernet link runs at 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps. The unit uses SNMP, Telnet, serial login and a web HTTP interface for ongoing monitoring, so administrators can watch traffic and adjust settings without interrupting the serial streams. Management protocols add negligible overhead on the Fast Ethernet pipe.

Ethernet and serial limits

The RJ-45 port is restricted to 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps modes; gigabit speeds are not supported. Serial signalling tops out at 921 Kbps, so applications needing multi-megabit device links will saturate the interface. Only DB-9 connectors are provided — no USB, terminal-block or RJ-45 serial options exist on this model.
