Single-port RS-232/422/485 device server with 10/100 Ethernet, PoE power, 256 KB memory and 1 MB flash for industrial automation
The Lantronix xDirect-IAP connects one RS232, RS422 or RS485 serial device to a 10/100 Ethernet network. It is built for industrial automation equipment that needs simple, wired network access without a host computer.
Power over Ethernet supplies the unit through the network cable, so no separate adapter is required. The compact enclosure runs cool and has no moving parts, keeping noise at zero in control cabinets or field installations.
The jump is worth it when legacy machinery must join an existing Ethernet infrastructure and Modbus translation is needed. It is not suited for applications that demand multiple serial ports, gigabit throughput or wireless connectivity.

Connect the Ethernet cable to the 10/100 port, power the unit via PoE or an external supply, then select RS-485 on the DB-9 serial interface and match the baud rate to your Modbus device.
No scheduled maintenance is required; the unit has no moving parts, but you may need to apply firmware updates through the Ethernet interface if Lantronix releases new Modbus or security patches.
The 10/100 Ethernet link saturates at 100 Mbps, so sustained heavy Modbus polling will hit the network bandwidth ceiling before the 256 KB RAM or 1 MB flash become a constraint.
