300 GB 10000 rpm SAS drive

This Lenovo 90Y8877 is a 300 GB internal hard drive spinning at 10000 rpm with a 6Gb/s SAS interface. It fits a 2.5-inch bay and is hot-swappable for server maintenance without downtime. The drive is supplied new in OEM or retail packaging that may vary. It carries RoHS environmental certification and a one-year limited warranty.

Suited for IBM System x server bays

The drive is listed as compatible with IBM System x servers and designated for server use. Buyers needing a different interface or a larger capacity for archival storage should look elsewhere. It is not intended for desktop or consumer laptop applications that lack SAS controllers.

6Gb/s SAS interface decides fit

The single specification that determines whether this is the right part is the 6Gb/s SAS interface. Your system must provide a SAS backplane or controller that supports this speed and the 2.5-inch form factor. Without a compatible SAS connection the drive will not function.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SAS drive in a hot-swap bay and what step is often missed?

Slide the 90Y8877 into the hot-swap tray until the connector seats firmly, then secure the tray latch; the step often missed is fully engaging the latch so the 6Gb/s SAS link initialises correctly.

What maintenance or replacement will the 10000 rpm drive need over time?

The 300 GB SAS drive has no user-serviceable parts; plan replacement when SMART attributes report reallocated sectors or after the one-year limited warranty period ends.

What limit appears first during sustained write workloads on this 6Gb/s SAS drive?

The 10000 rpm spindle and 6Gb/s SAS interface cap sustained throughput, so the mechanical write speed becomes the bottleneck before the interface saturates.
