IdeaPad Y500 gaming laptop

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT650M discrete graphics. It ships with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, 16GB of DDR3 memory and a 2TB solid state drive. The non-touch Full HD display resolves at 1920x1080.

Ultrabay flexibility and connectivity

An Ultrabay slot allows the optical drive to be swapped for additional hardware such as a second graphics card or extra storage. Built-in Bluetooth 4 and USB 3.0 ports handle peripherals and fast data transfer. A backlit keyboard, ThinkPad UltraNav touchpad, HD webcam and JBL speakers with Dolby Home Theater complete the package.

2TB SSD capacity for large libraries

The 2TB solid state drive holds extensive game libraries, media collections and project files without requiring external storage. 16GB of system memory provides headroom for multitasking and memory-intensive creative applications. The GT650M graphics card runs modern titles at reduced settings; buyers needing higher frame rates at maximum detail will find the GPU the limiting factor.

Questions about this item

What maintenance or replacement will the 16GB DDR3 memory or 2TB SSD require later?

The 16GB DDR3 memory is soldered or uses standard SO-DIMM slots, so adding capacity later depends on free slots; the 2TB SSD is a standard 2.5-inch drive that can be swapped for a larger one when needed.

Which limit appears first on the Core i7-3630QM or GT650M during sustained loads?

The Core i7-3630QM reaches its thermal ceiling first and reduces clocks to 3.1 GHz, capping frame rates before the GT650M hits its own limit.

How loud and hot does the Y500 get when running all day?

Dual fans spin up audibly under load; the chassis warms noticeably above the keyboard and near the exhaust, while the 3.0 USB ports stay cool during continuous transfers.
