Product Identity

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop built around an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor and a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics card. It ships with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a 2TB solid-state drive running Windows 8.1 64-bit. The non-touch display delivers a 1920x1080 resolution.

Suitability

This configuration suits buyers who want a factory-fresh machine with a large-capacity SSD and dedicated graphics for older titles or multimedia work. The Blu-ray writer and backlit keyboard add convenience for media consumption and low-light typing. Buyers who need a modern operating system, newer graphics architecture, or a lighter chassis should look elsewhere.

Deciding Specification

The 2TB solid-state drive is the single specification that decides fit: it provides far more high-speed storage than typical configurations, letting you keep a large library of games and media on the fastest volume without relying on secondary drives.

Questions about this item

What 15.6" 1920x1080 non-touch screen and 2TB solid-state drive does the Y500 use?

The 15.6-inch FHD panel at 1920x1080 resolution is built in and the 2TB solid-state drive occupies the primary storage bay; no secondary hard drive is present.

How is the NVIDIA GT650M discrete graphics card installed and what step is often missed?

The GT650M is factory-fitted in the Ultrabay slot; the step users miss is securing the Ultrabay latch fully so the PCIe connection seats correctly.

When will the 16GB DDR3 memory or the Blu-ray RW drive need replacement?

The 16GB DDR3 is soldered and not user-replaceable; the Blu-ray RW drive sits in the Ultrabay and can be swapped if it fails to read or write discs.
