Portable business laptop for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490s combines a 14.0 inch IPS touch display with an Intel Core i7-8565U quad-core processor. It ships with Windows 10 Pro, 8GB DDR4 memory and a 128GB NVMe SSD. A fingerprint reader and 720p webcam with ThinkShutter complete the feature set.

Sustained workload behaviour and thermal profile

The 1.80GHz base clock handles continuous office tasks without aggressive boosting. Under prolonged load the 4.6GHz turbo engages within thermal limits of the slim chassis. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics manages display output and light GPU work without a discrete card.

Interface limits and connectivity constraints

Thunderbolt and HDMI provide external display options through a shared I/O budget. The 128GB NVMe drive caps internal storage expansion unless the drive is replaced. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth handle wireless duties at the specification levels implemented in this platform.

Questions about this item

How much heat and noise does the Core i7-8565U produce when the 14" touchscreen runs all day?

The 1.80 GHz base and 4.6 GHz turbo quad-core processor is cooled in a thin-and-light chassis; expect audible fan spin under sustained load but quiet operation during typical office tasks.

Which cables or adapters must I already own to connect external monitors to the HDMI and Thunderbolt ports?

You need an HDMI cable for the HDMI output and a Thunderbolt 3 cable or USB-C adapter for the Thunderbolt port to drive additional displays.

Will my existing DDR4 SO-DIMM modules work alongside the soldered 8 GB memory in this T490s?

The 8 GB DDR4 is soldered to the board with no free SO-DIMM slot, so you cannot add or replace memory with modules you already own.
