Gaming Laptop for Multimedia and Creative Work

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6 inch laptop built for high-performance multimedia, gaming and graphics-intensive applications. It runs Windows 8.1 on an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor with up to 3.4 GHz turbo speed. A discrete NVIDIA GT650M graphics card drives the 1920x1080 non-touch display. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR3 memory and a 500GB solid state drive provide fast boot times and swift data access.

Upgrade from Integrated Graphics and Limited Memory

This system replaces laptops that rely on integrated graphics and 8GB or less of RAM. The jump is worth it when you need discrete GPU performance for rendering, video editing or modern titles at 1080p. USB 3.0 ports accelerate external storage workflows. The Blu-ray RW drive adds optical media flexibility missing from thinner ultrabooks. An Ultrabay slot allows the graphics module to be swapped for extra storage or a second battery.

16GB RAM and 500GB SSD Headroom

Sixteen gigabytes of memory comfortably handles multitasking across creative suites, browser tabs and background services. The 500GB solid state drive holds the operating system, applications and active project files with fast load speeds. Storage runs out when large raw video libraries or extensive game collections are kept locally. The GT650M 2GB frame buffer limits texture quality in newer AAA titles at maximum settings.
