Gaming laptop with discrete graphics

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6 inch gaming laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT650M discrete graphics. It includes 16GB DDR3 memory and a 500GB solid state drive. Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit comes pre-installed. This configuration targets users who need portable performance for gaming and multimedia creation.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Verify that Windows 8.1 Pro meets your software licensing requirements before purchase. Confirm the 500GB SSD capacity suits your storage needs for games and media files. The system uses DDR3 memory and Bluetooth 4 connectivity. No internal hard drive bay is present, so expansion relies on external drives or the Ultrabay slot.

Build quality and daily connections

The chassis weighs between 5 and 5.9 lbs and features a black finish with a backlit keyboard. A ThinkPad UltraNav touchpad provides combined pointing and TrackPoint control. Three USB 3.0 ports handle fast peripheral transfers. An integrated Blu-ray RW drive and HD webcam support media playback and video calls. JBL speakers with Dolby Home Theater deliver audio output.

Questions about this item

Does the laptop ship with the 500 GB solid-state drive and 16 GB DDR3 memory already installed, or must I add them myself?

The 500 GB SSD and 16 GB DDR3 RAM come pre-installed; no separate purchase or installation is required.

With 16 GB DDR3 memory and a 500 GB SSD as the only configuration listed, how do I decide which version to choose?

Only this single configuration is offered — 16 GB DDR3 and 500 GB SSD — so no capacity or memory choice is needed.

What does the Core i7-3630QM running up to 3.4 GHz mean for everyday gaming and multitasking on this machine?

The quad-core processor reaches 3.4 GHz turbo, letting the GT650M discrete graphics and 16 GB DDR3 handle modern titles at 1920x1080 and keep multiple apps responsive.
