Gaming-ready 15.6" laptop

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6 inch Windows 10 Pro laptop built around an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor with NVIDIA GeForce GT650M discrete graphics. It targets users who want a single portable machine for gaming, multimedia editing and everyday productivity without a separate desktop.

Ultrabay flexibility and hybrid storage

The chassis includes an Ultrabay slot that can hold the supplied Blu-ray RW drive or be swapped for a second battery or additional graphics module. A 1 TB hybrid drive combines hard-disk capacity with a small solid-state cache, while three USB 3.0 ports handle fast external storage and peripherals. Bluetooth 4 connects mice, headsets and phones without cables.

Thermals, noise and power in daily use

The 1080p non-touch display and 8 GB of DDR3 memory keep the platform balanced for typical workloads. Under load the discrete GT650M and quad-core CPU raise fan speed, but the system remains usable on a desk. The 64-bit Windows 10 Pro installation is ready for modern drivers and security updates out of the box.

Questions about this item

How does the Intel Core i7-3630QM processor handle heat when it reaches its 3.4 GHz turbo speed during long sessions?

The quad-core i7-3630QM is rated to run up to 3.4 GHz. Under sustained load the laptop's cooling system manages the thermal output of the discrete GT650M graphics and processor together.

What fan noise level should I expect from the NVIDIA GT650M and CPU when the Y500 runs all day?

The Y500 uses a single cooling assembly for the GT650M and i7-3630QM. Fan speed ramps with combined GPU and CPU load, so extended gaming or rendering will raise audible airflow.

Which operating-system licence do I need to already own to use the pre-installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit?

The laptop ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit already activated. No separate licence is required; the product key is stored in the firmware.
