Ready-to-use gaming laptop

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 arrives with Windows 8.1 64-bit pre-installed and a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics card. An Intel Core i7-3630QM processor running up to 3.4 GHz works alongside 16 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1 TB solid state drive. The 15.6 inch non-touch display shows 1920x1080 resolution for games and media.

Check power and ports before ordering

The system draws power through its proprietary AC adapter, so verify the brick and cable are present and undamaged. Three USB 3.0 ports handle peripherals and external storage at 5 Gbps. Bluetooth 4 supports wireless mice, headsets or phones without a dongle. An Ultrabay slot lets you swap the optical drive for a second battery or another module later.

Black chassis with backlit keyboard

The matte black body weighs between 5 and 5.9 lbs and includes a ThinkPad UltraNav touchpad with dedicated buttons. A white backlit keyboard helps typing in low light. An HD webcam sits above the screen for calls. The Blu-ray RW drive reads and writes CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs. JBL speakers with Dolby Home Theater provide audio without external hardware.

Questions about this item

Does the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 include the Blu-ray RW drive and the AC adapter, or do I need to buy them separately?

The laptop ships with the Blu-ray RW drive installed in the Ultrabay and the power adapter in the box, so nothing extra is required for basic operation.

Should I choose the 16 GB DDR3 configuration or a smaller memory option for the Core i7-3630QM and GT650M combination?

The 16 GB DDR3 module matches the quad-core processor and discrete graphics, giving headroom for modern games and multitasking without a later upgrade.

What does the 3.4 GHz turbo figure mean for real-world frame rates on the GT650M at 1920x1080?

The processor can reach 3.4 GHz on short bursts, helping maintain playable frame rates in older titles at 1080p, while the GT650M handles the graphics workload.
