Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 Gaming Laptop

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6 inch laptop with a 1920x1080 FHD non-touch display. It runs on an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor up to 3.4GHz with 8GB DDR3 memory. Discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics and a 1TB hard drive support gaming and multimedia. Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Upgrade From Integrated Graphics Or Smaller Storage

Buyers moving from a system with integrated graphics gain a discrete GT650M card for heavier visual workloads. The 1TB drive replaces smaller capacities when local libraries of games and media are needed. The jump is worth it if your current machine struggles with discrete GPU tasks or runs out of space.

Check OS Support And Peripheral Needs

Verify that Windows 8.1 Pro meets your software compatibility requirements before ordering. The laptop includes USB 3.0 ports and Bluetooth 4 for external devices. Confirm the 5.9 lb weight suits your mobility expectations. No SSD is present, so boot and load times remain at hard-drive speeds.

Questions about this item

What is the Ultrabay slot used for on the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500?

The Ultrabay lets you swap the Blu-ray RW drive for a second GT650M graphics card or an extra hard drive, giving you upgrade flexibility without opening the chassis.

How do you install a second GT650M in the Ultrabay, and what step is often missed?

Slide the graphics module into the Ultrabay until it clicks, then install the NVIDIA SLI driver so both GPUs work together — skipping the driver leaves the second card inactive.

When will the 8 GB DDR3 memory or 1 TB hard drive need replacement?

The 8 GB DDR3 RAM is soldered and not user-replaceable; the 1 TB hard drive can be swapped later if it fails or you need more capacity.
