Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 15.6" Gaming Laptop

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6 inch laptop built around an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor and a dedicated NVIDIA GT650M graphics card. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory, a 1TB hard drive and a 1920x1080 non-touch display. Windows 8.1 64-bit is pre-installed on this new unit.

Best for gamers and creators needing dedicated

This configuration suits users who want a discrete GPU for older titles and multimedia editing on a Full HD screen. Buyers who need solid-state storage, a touchscreen, or a newer operating system should look elsewhere. The optical drive is a Blu-ray RW module.

Graphics card decides suitability

The NVIDIA GT650M defines what this laptop can run. If your workload or game library requires a more powerful GPU, this model will not meet the requirement. All other specifications support that graphics subsystem.

Questions about this item

How fast does the Core i7-3630QM actually run in the Y500?

The processor operates at a base frequency of 3.1 GHz and can reach up to 3.4 GHz under Turbo Boost when thermal headroom allows.

What does the USB 3.0 port cap at in real transfers?

The USB 3.0 interface supports a theoretical maximum of 5 Gbps, so actual sustained throughput will be lower depending on the connected drive and cable quality.

Will the 15.6" chassis fit in a standard 15-inch laptop sleeve?

The 15.6-inch form factor typically requires a sleeve sized for 15.6-inch devices; a strict 15-inch sleeve may be too tight for the Y500's dimensions.
