Lenovo Legion Y520 gaming laptop

The Lenovo Legion Y520 is a 15.6-inch Windows 11 gaming laptop built around a 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor running at 2.8 GHz with a maximum turbo speed of 3.8 GHz. It pairs 16GB of DDR4 memory with a 256GB SSD and a 2TB HDD for combined fast boot and high-capacity storage. A dedicated 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card drives the 1920x1080 FHD IPS anti-glare display.

Suits 1080p gaming and heavy storage needs.

This configuration suits players who want smooth frame rates in established 1080p titles and need 2TB of local space for a large game library or media files. The 4GB GTX 1050 Ti and 7th Generation CPU will struggle with modern AAA releases at high settings. Buyers who want ray-tracing support, higher refresh-rate panels or more video memory should look at a different system.

4GB GTX 1050 Ti graphics card

The single specification that decides fit is the 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU. It determines which games run playably at 1920x1080 and whether creative applications can use hardware acceleration. If your workload needs more VRAM or a newer architecture, this laptop will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

How do I add RAM to the Legion Y520?

Remove the base cover, insert DDR4 modules into the two SODIMM slots until they click, then replace the cover.

What storage maintenance will the 2TB HDD and 256GB SSD need?

The HDD may eventually need replacement due to mechanical wear; the SSD has no moving parts and requires no physical maintenance.

What thermal limit appears first during long gaming sessions on the GTX 1050 Ti?

The GPU and i7-7700HQ share a cooling system; sustained load typically hits the thermal throttle point of the 4GB GDDR5 graphics first.
