Lenovo Mellanox Fiber Optic Cable 9.84 ft

This Lenovo Mellanox cable is a 9.84 ft fiber optic network cable built for InfiniBand connectivity. It is an active cable designed to link network devices within compatible IBM System x environments. The construction uses optical fibre to carry data between endpoints.

Suited for InfiniBand clusters

It suits administrators wiring InfiniBand fabrics in IBM System x clusters where an active optical link is required. It is not for buyers who need copper twinax cabling, different connector types, or lengths other than 9.84 ft. It also does not fit Ethernet-only switch ports.

Active optical design for sustained signal integrity

The active optical design maintains signal quality over the full 9.84 ft run without the degradation seen in passive copper at distance. It supports continuous traffic across the link without the signal drop-off that limits shorter passive assemblies. The fibre medium avoids electromagnetic interference during prolonged loads.

Questions about this item

What InfiniBand hardware must I already have to use this 9.84 ft fiber optic cable?

You need network devices with InfiniBand ports such as Mellanox adapters or switches that accept an active fiber cable.

Will this 9.84 ft active cable work with older InfiniBand equipment I keep in the rack?

Yes, it is compatible with IBM System x gear and other InfiniBand devices that support the same active fiber interface.

How can I confirm the 9.84 ft cable is functioning correctly after I connect it?

Check the link LEDs on both InfiniBand ports and verify the link comes up at the expected speed in your switch or host management tools.
