Mobile workstation for certified applications

The Lenovo ThinkPad P15 Gen 2 20YQ0044US is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built for engineers and designers who run ISV-certified workloads. It combines an Intel Core i7-11850H octa-core processor at 2.50 GHz with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The NVIDIA RTX A2000 with 4 GB GPU handles 3D modelling and simulation tasks. Windows 10 Pro and the Intel WM590 chipset complete the platform.

Installation notes and common issues

The system arrives fully assembled with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed so no internal build steps are required. Users only need to complete the initial OS setup and install any driver updates from Lenovo support. The most frequent issue is forgetting to switch the discrete RTX GPU on for specific applications in the NVIDIA control panel. Another common oversight is leaving the default power plan on balanced mode which can throttle sustained compute performance.

Thermal behaviour under sustained load

Under continuous heavy workloads the octa-core processor and RTX A2000 GPU share a compact thermal solution so temperatures rise steadily. Fan speeds increase noticeably after several minutes of full utilisation and surface temperatures on the keyboard deck become warm. Clock speeds may step down gradually to stay within thermal limits which reduces throughput compared with short bursts. The 802.11ax wireless link remains stable throughout extended sessions.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the 15.6" Full HD IPS panel is operating at 1920 x 1080 after setup?

Open Windows Display Settings and confirm the resolution slider shows 1920 x 1080 as the recommended setting; the Intel WM590 chipset and RTX A2000 4 GB GPU will drive the panel at that native resolution automatically.

What ships in the box with the ThinkPad P15 Gen 2 20YQ0044US and what must I source separately?

The unit includes the 15.6" mobile workstation with i7-11850H octa-core 2.50 GHz processor, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, RTX A2000 4 GB graphics, Windows 10 Pro, English keyboard and IEEE 802.11ax wireless; only peripherals such as an external monitor or dock need separate purchase.

Which configuration choice matters most between the listed versions for this 20YQ0044US model?

This SKU is a single fixed build — 15.6" Full HD IPS, i7-11850H 8-core 2.50 GHz, 32 GB memory, 1 TB storage, RTX A2000 4 GB, Windows 10 Pro — so no capacity or version selection is required at purchase.
