Mobile workstation for creators

The Lenovo ThinkPad P15p Gen 2 combines an Intel Core i7-11800H 8-core processor with 32 GB DDR4 3200 memory and a 1 TB PCIe SSD. A 15.6" 4K IPS panel at 3840 x 2160 resolution supports colour-critical tasks. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4 GB graphics handle GPU-accelerated workflows. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

Thermals and power in daily use

The 45 W processor runs at 1.9 GHz base and 2.3 GHz boost alongside the discrete GTX 1650. Under sustained creative loads the dual-fan cooling manages heat while fan noise stays at office-friendly levels. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 maintain connectivity without adding thermal load. The 300-nit anti-glare screen keeps power draw moderate for mobile sessions.

Upgrade path and fit

This configuration replaces older mobile workstations limited to 1080p panels or 16 GB memory. The 4K IPS display and 32 GB DDR4 3200 remove bottlenecks in timeline scrubbing and multi-layer compositing. Buyers who need wider colour gamut than 45 % NTSC or heavier GPU compute should consider a higher-tier graphics option.

Questions about this item

How do I install additional DDR4 3200 memory in the ThinkPad P15p Gen 2, and which step do people often miss?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the SO-DIMM at an angle until it clicks, then press down firmly; the step most people miss is pressing down until the retention clips lock audibly on both sides.

What maintenance or replacement will the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4 GB need later?

The GTX 1650 is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced; maintenance is limited to keeping the heatsink and fan vents clear of dust so the GPU stays within thermal limits.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Intel Core i7-11800H with its 24MB cache?

The 45 W power ceiling of the i7-11800H is reached before thermal throttling, so clock speeds drop to stay within that envelope during prolonged heavy workloads.
