Mobile workstation for professional workloads

The Lenovo ThinkPad P17 Gen 1 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation running Windows 10 Pro. It targets engineers and creators who need a large Full HD display and an Intel Core i7 10th Gen processor in a black chassis. The 512 GB SSD and 16 GB of memory provide a solid baseline for demanding applications.

Thermals and power in typical use

The Intel Core i7-10750H processor and integrated Intel UHD graphics share a single cooling system designed for sustained professional tasks. In normal office or light design work the system runs quietly and power draw remains moderate. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity add minimal thermal load during standard operation.

Behaviour under sustained load

During extended rendering or calculation sessions the six-core processor maintains higher frequencies longer than ultraportable alternatives. The larger chassis allows heat to dissipate without aggressive fan curves. Performance stays consistent over long periods rather than throttling after a short burst.

Questions about this item

How do I install extra RAM in the ThinkPad P17 Gen 1 and which step is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover screws, lift the panel, align the SODIMM module into the empty slot, press firmly until the retention clips click, then verify 16GB shows in BIOS before reassembling.

What maintenance will the 512GB SSD need over time?

The solid-state drive has no moving parts, so no mechanical maintenance is required; keep at least 10% free space and run Windows 10 Pro TRIM optimisation periodically to sustain write performance.

Which limit appears first on the Core i7-10750H during a long render on the 17.3" 1920x1080 display?

The 10th Gen processor hits its thermal ceiling before the Intel UHD GPU saturates, causing clock throttling that reduces sustained multi-core speed.
