Mobile workstation with 64GB DDR4

The Lenovo ThinkPad P50 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need ISV-certified stability for 3D rendering and heavy multitasking. It runs Windows 8.1 Pro on an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor with a 3.5 GHz maximum turbo frequency. The system includes a 1 TB hybrid drive and an NVIDIA Quadro M1000M graphics card.

64GB DDR4 memory capacity

The 64 GB of DDR4 RAM is the specification that determines whether this laptop can handle large assemblies, complex simulations or multiple virtual machines without paging. This capacity supports the ISV-certified application stack that the workstation targets. Buyers who need more memory than 64 GB should consider a different platform.

Fingerprint reader and UltraNav pointing

The integrated fingerprint reader adds hardware-based authentication for secure logins without passwords. The ThinkPad UltraNav combines a TrackPoint pointing stick with a multi-touch touchpad, letting users navigate without lifting their hands from the keyboard. A 720p HD webcam supports video conferencing, while Bluetooth 4.1 connects peripherals wirelessly.

Questions about this item

What does the 3.5 GHz turbo on the i7-6700HQ mean for real workloads?

The quad-core processor reaches 3.5 GHz on short bursts, so compile jobs and CAD viewport navigation stay responsive while the 64 GB DDR4 buffer keeps large assemblies in memory.

How does the 1 TB hybrid drive perform compared with a pure SSD?

The hybrid drive caches hot files on its solid-state portion, cutting boot and application launch times versus a conventional 1 TB hard drive, though sustained writes still run at mechanical speeds.

Will the 15.6 inch chassis fit a standard laptop backpack?

At 15.6 inches and up to 5.9 lbs the P50 fits most 15 inch business backpacks, but verify the compartment depth because the workstation hinge adds thickness versus ultrabooks.
