Mobile workstation for ISV-certified apps

The ThinkPad P50 combines an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor with NVIDIA Quadro M1000M graphics in a 15.6-inch chassis. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 4TB solid-state drive support large datasets. Windows 10 Pro and a fingerprint reader provide enterprise-grade security out of the box.

Quadro M1000M limits GPU compute headroom

The Quadro M1000M delivers entry-level workstation graphics suitable for 2D CAD, light 3D modelling and multi-display productivity. It is not designed for heavy GPU rendering, deep-learning training or modern real-time ray-tracing workloads. Buyers needing sustained double-precision compute or large-frame-buffer simulation should look elsewhere.

4TB SSD capacity decides fit for local datasets

A single 4TB solid-state drive holds operating system, applications and active project files without external storage. Professionals working with multi-terabyte media libraries or offline virtual-machine clusters will exceed this capacity quickly.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 4TB SSD or a smaller drive?

The 4TB SSD gives you the maximum factory storage this model ships with; choose it if you need all 4TB for large project files, otherwise a smaller drive saves cost.

What does the 3.5 GHz turbo frequency deliver in daily work?

The Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad-core processor reaches 3.5 GHz on turbo, letting you render 3D scenes or compile code faster during peak loads.

Does the DDR4 memory limit future upgrades?

The system includes 16GB DDR4 RAM; the DDR4 standard supports higher capacities if the laptop's slots allow additional modules.
