New 2018 ThinkPad P52 Workstation

The Lenovo ThinkPad P52 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built on an Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor reaching 4.3 GHz. It pairs 16 GB DDR4 2400 memory with dual storage: a 1 TB NVMe solid-state drive and a 1 TB hard disk. NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics with 4 GB dedicated video memory drive the FHD IPS display. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Engineers and creators needing ISV-certified

This laptop suits professionals who rely on Quadro drivers for CAD, DCC or scientific visualisation workloads. The fingerprint reader and webcam privacy cover address physical security requirements. Buyers who need a touchscreen or higher GPU memory for large model rendering should evaluate other configurations.

1 TB NVMe SSD plus 1 TB HDD combined storage

The defining specification is the factory-fitted dual-drive layout: a 1 TB NVMe boot volume paired with a 1 TB mechanical drive for capacity. This combination delivers fast application launch and ample project space without requiring after-market upgrades. Verify that the single 16 GB DDR4 module meets your memory-expansion plans before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I add more memory to the ThinkPad P52 and which slot is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover to reach the two SO-DIMM slots; the upper slot under the keyboard deck is the one people forget.

What storage drives will need attention down the road?

The 1TB NVMe SSD and 1TB HDD are both user-replaceable; plan to swap either if capacity or health declines.

What thermal limit appears first during long rendering sessions on the Quadro P1000?

The GPU hits its thermal ceiling before the CPU, throttling clocks to stay within safe temperatures.
