Mobile workstation for 3D tasks

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need certified application performance on the move. A quad-core Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor reaches 3.80 GHz turbo frequency with 6 MB L3 cache. The system includes 32 GB DDR4 memory and an NVIDIA Quadro P3000 GPU with 6 GB dedicated video memory for 3D rendering and compute workloads.

Dual-drive storage changes daily workflow

A 256 GB PCIe NVMe SSD holds the operating system and active projects for fast boot and load times. A secondary 1 TB hard disk drive adds bulk capacity for archives, media libraries and large datasets without requiring external drives. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed, while a fingerprint reader and smart card reader provide hardware-based authentication for secure logon.

FHD IPS panel limits colour-critical work

The 17.3-inch display uses IPS technology at 1920 x 1080 resolution, giving wide viewing angles but a standard sRGB gamut unsuitable for print-grade colour accuracy. The panel is non-touch and anti-glare, which helps in bright environments but offers no pen or gesture input. Integrated 4G LTE WWAN provides mobile connectivity where Wi-Fi is unavailable, though throughput depends on carrier coverage and network generation.

Questions about this item

Will the 256GB NVMe SSD or 1TB HDD need replacement first?

The 1TB HDD has moving parts that wear over time, while the 256GB NVMe SSD is solid-state and typically lasts longer under normal workloads.

Which component hits its limit first during sustained heavy loads — the i7-7700HQ or the Quadro P3000?

The i7-7700HQ quad-core processor with 3.80 GHz turbo will usually reach thermal throttle before the Quadro P3000 6GB GPU under continuous compute tasks.

How loud and hot does the P71 get when running all day?

The workstation-class cooling manages heat from the i7-7700HQ and Quadro P3000, but fans become audible under full load and the chassis warms noticeably during extended use.
