Mobile Workstation Platform

The ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need certified application stability in a portable chassis. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Xeon E3-1535M v6 processor with 64GB of DDR4 memory. The system targets engineers and creators who require ISV certification across more than 100 applications. Buyers needing a lighter ultrabook or a desktop replacement with upgradeable graphics should look elsewhere.

Memory and Storage Headroom

The 64GB DDR4 configuration at 2400 MHz provides ample headroom for large assemblies, high-resolution textures and virtual machines. Storage combines a 500GB M.2 NGFF SSD for the operating system and active projects with a 1TB hard drive for archival data. The SSD capacity limits the number of active projects that can reside on fast storage, while the mechanical drive adds latency for bulk file access. Users working with datasets exceeding the SSD space will see slower load times.

Display and Graphics Interface

The 3840 x 2160 UHD IPS panel delivers pixel-accurate colour on a 17.3 inch non-touch surface. An NVIDIA Quadro P4000 with 8GB of video memory drives the internal display and external outputs through the mobile workstation's port selection. The panel resolution and GPU memory define the practical ceiling for viewport complexity and external monitor count. Workflows requiring higher frame rates at 4K or multi-GPU scaling exceed the capabilities of this single mobile GPU.

Questions about this item

Will the 17.3" UHD display run at 3840x2160 alongside an older 1080p monitor without scaling issues?

The built-in panel is a 17.3" UHD IPS screen at 3840x2160. Windows 10 Pro handles per-monitor DPI scaling so each display can use its own factor.

How can I confirm the Xeon E3-1535M v6 is hitting 4.2 GHz and the Quadro P4000 8GB is recognised after first boot?

Open Task Manager Performance tab to see CPU clock reach 4.20 GHz under load, and check Device Manager Display adapters for NVIDIA Quadro P4000 with 8 GB VRAM.

Does the box include a 256 GB SSD or the 500 GB M.2 NGFF SSD, and is the DVD±RW drive already fitted?

This unit ships with a 500 GB M.2 NGFF SSD plus a 1 TB hard drive, 64 GB DDR4 2400 MHz RAM, and the DVD±RW burner installed in the optical bay.
