Mobile Workstation Purpose

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need ISV-certified stability across more than 100 applications. Its Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor reaches 3.80 GHz turbo frequency with four cores and 6 MB of L3 cache. The 16 GB DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz supports demanding multitasking and 3D rendering workloads.

Dual Storage Configuration

A 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD provides the primary boot and application volume while a second 1 TB hard disk drive adds bulk capacity for project archives. This factory pairing means the operating system and active data sets load from solid-state speed without the buyer needing to install an additional drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and the fingerprint reader are pre-configured for immediate secure logon.

Quadro M620 and Display Limits

The NVIDIA Quadro M620M graphics card carries 2 GB of VRAM, which constrains the size of models and textures that can reside on the GPU simultaneously. The 17.3 inch FHD IPS panel operates at 1920 x 1080 resolution, so external 4K or higher-resolution monitors would require downscaling or a discrete docking solution not described here. Non-touch anti-glare coating suits bright environments but removes pen or finger input.

Questions about this item

Will the 16 GB DDR4 memory need to be upgraded later?

The laptop ships with 16 GB DDR4 at 2400 MHz; both SO-DIMM slots are accessible under the bottom cover for future expansion.

What limits the i7-7700HQ during long rendering sessions?

The quad-core processor has a 3.8 GHz turbo ceiling and 6 MB cache, so thermal throttling under continuous load is the first bottleneck.

How loud and hot does the P71 get when running all day?

The Quadro M620 and i7-7700HQ share a dual-fan cooling system; expect audible fan spin and warm keyboard deck under sustained workloads.
