Mobile workstation with dual storage

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need ISV certified application support. It combines an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor with NVIDIA Quadro M620M graphics and a dual drive layout of 1TB SSD plus 1TB HDD. Windows 10 Pro and a fingerprint reader complete the security focused package.

Limits of the Kaby Lake platform

The quad core processor reaches 3.80 GHz turbo frequency with 6 MB L3 cache and supports DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz. The 1920 x 1080 IPS panel is non touch and fixed at 17.3 inches. Graphics memory is 2 GB on the Quadro M620M, which caps GPU compute and viewport performance for large assemblies. The platform does not support newer instruction sets or memory speeds beyond the listed specification.

Serviceable memory and storage bays

The chassis provides user accessible slots for RAM upgrades and both M.2 and 2.5 inch drive bays for storage expansion. Installing additional DDR4 modules requires removing the bottom cover and matching the 2400 MHz speed. A common issue is forgetting to enable the second drive in BIOS after hardware installation, leaving the 1TB HDD invisible to the operating system.
