Mobile Workstation for Professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built for professional users who need ISV-certified stability. It runs Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory. The 2TB SSD provides substantial storage capacity for large project files and applications.

Upgrade from Consumer Laptops

This system replaces standard consumer notebooks when certified driver support for professional 3D applications is required. The Quadro M620M GPU with 2GB VRAM and the quad-core processor enable hardware-accelerated workflows that integrated graphics cannot deliver. The jump is worth it for users dependent on ISV-certified reliability across over 100 independent software vendor applications.

Capacity and Headroom

The 2TB solid-state drive comfortably holds operating system, applications, and active project datasets without external storage. Eight gigabytes of 2400 MHz DDR4 memory handles moderate multitasking and typical CAD models, while the 1920 x 1080 IPS display provides accurate colour representation. Memory-intensive rendering or simulation workloads will exceed the installed RAM capacity.

Questions about this item

What drive bay and memory slot sizes does the 17.3 inch ThinkPad P71 accept for the 2TB SSD and 8GB DDR4 RAM?

The system uses a 2.5 inch bay for the 2TB SSD and two SO-DIMM slots for DDR4 2400 MHz memory, with one 8GB module installed.

Which screw must be removed first to reach the SSD and RAM, and what common mistake damages the keyboard cable?

Remove the bottom cover screws, then lift the cover gently; the keyboard ribbon cable stays attached, so do not pull the cover straight up.

When should the CMOS coin cell and thermal paste on the i7-7700HQ be replaced?

Replace the CMOS cell if the clock loses time, and refresh thermal paste on the quad-core processor every few years for stable 3.8 GHz boost.
