Mobile workstation for demanding workflows

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need certified application stability. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor with four cores and a 3.80 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a combined 2 TB PCIe NVMe SSD plus 1 TB hard drive.

Desktop replacement with expandable storage

This laptop integrates the NVIDIA Quadro M620M graphics card for ISV-certified workloads such as 3D rendering and CAD. The 1920 x 1080 IPS anti-glare display provides accurate colour without a touchscreen layer. Dual-drive architecture lets the operating system and active projects reside on the NVMe SSD while the hard drive holds archives, reducing the need for external storage.

Suited for certified software users.

Engineers and designers who rely on ISV-certified drivers for over 100 applications will benefit from the Quadro GPU and spill-resistant keyboard with TrackPoint. Buyers who prioritise maximum battery runtime or a sub-2 kg chassis should consider ultraportable alternatives, as this 17.3-inch class prioritises performance and port selection over minimal weight.

Questions about this item

How long can the i7-7700HQ sustain its 3.8 GHz turbo before thermal throttling limits performance?

The quad-core i7-7700HQ with 6 MB L3 cache runs at up to 3.8 GHz; sustained loads will hit the thermal ceiling of the 17.3" chassis and reduce clocks.

What fan noise and surface temperatures should I expect when the Quadro M620 and CPU run all day?

The workstation-class cooling handles the Quadro M620 and i7-7700HQ under continuous load; expect audible fan spin and warm palm-rest areas during extended sessions.

Which dock or port replicator do I need to drive two external monitors from this P71?

The P71 uses Lenovo's side-dock connector; a compatible ThinkPad Workstation Dock adds the video outputs required for dual external displays.
