Mobile workstation with Xeon processor

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a new 17.3 inch mobile workstation built around an Intel Xeon E3-1535M v6 quad-core processor reaching 4.20 GHz turbo frequency. It targets professionals who require ISV-certified stability for 3D rendering and enhanced multitasking on Windows 10 Pro. The 3840 x 2160 UHD IPS display provides a non-touch anti-glare surface for colour-critical work. A fingerprint reader, smart card reader and colour sensor add hardware-level security and calibration tools.

Dual-drive storage and professional graphics

The system ships with 16GB of DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz alongside a 1TB M.2 NGFF SSD paired with a 1TB hard drive for combined speed and capacity. NVIDIA Quadro P3000 graphics with 6GB of dedicated memory drive the 4K panel and accelerate certified applications. A DVD±RW drive occupies the optical bay while AC WiFi handles wireless connectivity. The spill-resistant keyboard includes a TrackPoint pointing device for precision navigation without an external mouse.

Upgrade from dual-core mobile workstations

This configuration replaces older dual-core mobile workstations that struggle with concurrent rendering and simulation tasks. The jump is worth it when workflows demand Xeon reliability, Quadro certification and a 17.3 inch 4K IPS canvas in a single chassis. Buyers who need more than 16GB of memory or multiple GPU configurations should consider larger desktop replacements. The P71 balances expandability and portability for field engineers and content creators.

Questions about this item

How long can the Xeon E3-1535M hold its 4.2 GHz turbo before thermal limits throttle it?

The quad-core Xeon E3-1535M is rated for a maximum turbo frequency of 4.2 GHz; sustained loads will trigger thermal management once the cooling solution reaches its capacity.

What are the fan noise and surface temperatures like after hours of rendering on the Quadro P3000?

The NVIDIA Quadro P3000 6 GB and Xeon processor share the workstation cooling system; extended rendering will raise fan speed and chassis temperature as heat builds.

Which memory modules must already be installed for the 16 GB DDR4 configuration to run at 2400 MHz?

The system ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory operating at 2400 MHz; no additional modules are required for the advertised speed.
