Mobile workstation with Xeon processor

The ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built around an Intel Xeon E3-1535M v6 quad-core processor reaching 4.20 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 16GB of DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz and a 1TB hybrid drive. The system runs Windows 10 Pro and includes a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P4000 GPU with 8GB video memory.

UHD IPS display at 3840 x 2160

The non-touch screen uses in-plane switching technology and an anti-glare coating at a native 3840 by 2160 resolution. This pixel density suits colour-critical tasks such as photo editing or CAD review. The integrated Pantone colour sensor assists with on-device calibration. No touch input is supported on this panel.

Serviceable memory and storage bays

The hybrid drive and SO-DIMM slots are accessible after removing the bottom cover, allowing straightforward capacity upgrades. The DVD±RW optical bay can be swapped for a second drive caddy if required. The 4G LTE WWAN module uses a standard M.2 slot. ISV certification covers over 100 applications for driver stability.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1TB hybrid drive with 8GB NAND or look for a larger SSD-only option?

The 1TB hybrid drive combines a mechanical disk with 8GB of NAND flash for faster access to frequently used files, while the 16GB DDR4-2400 memory handles active workloads.

What does the 4.2 GHz turbo figure mean for daily rendering on the Xeon E3-1535M v6?

The quad-core Xeon E3-1535M v6 can reach 4.2 GHz on short bursts, giving responsive viewport interaction and quicker single-threaded tasks before thermal limits settle it lower.

Does the Quadro P4000 8GB GPU run over PCIe 3.0 x16 or a narrower link?

The Quadro P4000 8GB connects through the mobile workstation PCIe lanes, delivering full ISV-certified driver support for 3D and compute workloads on the 3840 x 2160 IPS panel.
