Core specification

The Lenovo ThinkPad T450 is a 14.0 inch laptop powered by an Intel Core i5 5th Gen processor running at 2.00 GHz. It comes with 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB SATA hard drive. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed on the device.

Ideal use case

This laptop suits buyers who need a mainstream 14 inch Windows machine for everyday tasks with the ability to expand memory up to 16GB across two slots. It is not for buyers who want an SSD, a touchscreen, or a lighter ultrabook form factor.

Deciding specification

The 500GB SATA hard drive is the single specification that decides fit; choose this model only if mechanical storage capacity meets the requirement and solid-state speed is not essential.

Questions about this item

What SATA revision does the 500 GB hard drive use, and what throughput does that cap?

The drive connects over SATA, which limits sequential throughput to the SATA III ceiling of about 6 Gb/s in practice.

What physical drive bay and memory slots must the chassis provide for this configuration?

A 2.5-inch SATA bay for the 500 GB hard drive and two DDR3 SO-DIMM sockets, currently holding 4 GB with room to reach 16 GB.

How is the Windows 10 licence activated, and what step do people skip?

A digital product key is pre-installed; activation happens automatically after you accept the licence agreement — skipping that acceptance screen leaves the OS unactivated.
