Ready-to-deploy 14-inch business laptop

The ThinkPad T460 arrives with a 14.0 inch FHD display at 1920 x 1080 resolution, an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor running at 2.40 GHz with a 3.00 GHz turbo frequency, 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a new 240 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe solid-state drive. No operating system is installed, so the buyer provides their own licence and image.

Sustained workload behaviour

The dual-core CPU and Intel HD Graphics 520 handle typical office applications, web sessions and video playback without thermal throttling during extended use. The 8 GB memory capacity supports multitasking across browser tabs and productivity suites, while the NVMe drive keeps boot and application load times consistent across a full workday.

The deciding specification

Maximum supported memory is 32 GB across two slots, so buyers who need more than 8 GB of RAM must plan an upgrade. The absence of a pre-installed operating system means this unit is not suited for users who require an out-of-the-box Windows environment.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the ThinkPad T460 get when the Intel Core i5-6300U runs at 3.00 GHz turbo all day?

The dual-core i5-6300U has a low thermal design power, so the single fan stays quiet and the chassis remains cool to the touch during extended workloads.

What must I already own to use this laptop, given it ships with no operating system?

You need a Windows or Linux installation USB and a valid licence key; the 240 GB NVMe SSD is blank and ready for a fresh OS install.

Will my older DDR3 SODIMM modules work alongside the 8 GB already installed in the T460?

Yes, the board has two DDR3 slots supporting up to 32 GB total, so existing DDR3 sticks can be added to the factory 8 GB.
