14.0" Full HD ThinkPad T460

The Lenovo ThinkPad T460 is a 14.0 inch ultrabook built for mobile professionals who need a durable carbon-fibre reinforced chassis. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor at 2.60 GHz with 8 GB DDR3 memory and a 256 GB SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the 1920 x 1080 LED backlit display.

Suits mobile workers; not for heavy GPU loads

This laptop suits mobile workers who value a rugged magnesium body, fingerprint reader absence, and a full selection of ports including three USB 3.0, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet and an SD card reader. Buyers who want more storage, discrete graphics performance, a touchscreen panel, or a fingerprint reader should look at something else.

256 GB SSD and 8 GB DDR3 decide fit

The single specification that decides whether this is the right part is the combination of a 256 GB solid-state drive and 8 GB of DDR3 system memory. This capacity and memory pairing fixes the ceiling for multitasking headroom and local file storage before an upgrade or external drive becomes necessary.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256 GB SSD and what step do people often miss?

The 256 GB SSD is already fitted internally. If you replace it later, the step many miss is cloning the Windows 10 Pro partition before swapping the drive.

What maintenance or replacement will the 8 GB DDR3 memory need later?

The 8 GB DDR3 is soldered and cannot be upgraded. No user maintenance is required, but a full memory failure would need a motherboard replacement.

What limit appears first on the Intel HD Graphics 520 during sustained 1920 x 1080 workloads?

Shared system memory and thermal throttling on the i7-6600U limit the Intel HD Graphics 520 before the 256 GB SSD or 8 GB DDR3 become bottlenecks.
