ThinkPad T460 for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T460 is a 14.0" HD laptop built around an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz with a 3.40 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 128GB 2.5" SATA SSD, running Windows 10 Home 64-bit. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the 1366 x 768 non-touch display.

Suits office users; not for heavy creative workloads

This configuration suits professionals who need a durable, portable machine for document work, web browsing and video calls with the built-in webcam and Bluetooth. The dual-core processor and integrated graphics limit performance for video editing, 3D rendering or modern gaming. Buyers who need more than 128GB of internal storage or a higher-resolution screen should consider other options.

32 GB maximum memory support

The system provides two memory slots and supports up to 32 GB of DDR3 RAM, allowing a straightforward capacity increase if 8GB proves tight for multitasking. The 2.5" SATA SSD can also be replaced with a larger drive when more space is required. These two upgrade paths define the usable lifespan of the chassis.

Questions about this item

Does the Intel Core i7-6600U throttle under sustained load because of the 14" chassis?

The dual-core processor runs at 2.60 GHz base and 3.40 GHz turbo; thermal limits depend on the cooling solution inside this specific 14.0" model.

How loud or hot does the T460 get when the Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the 1366 x 768 panel all day?

Fan noise and surface temperature vary with workload; the integrated GPU shares system DDR3 memory and has no dedicated fan curve published.

Will my existing DDR3 SO-DIMM sticks work to reach the 32 GB maximum?

The laptop has two slots supporting up to 32 GB total of DDR3 memory; match the speed and voltage of the installed 8 GB module.
