ThinkPad T460s 14 inch Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad T460s is a 14.0 inch ultrabook built for mobile professionals who need a reliable Windows device. It runs an Intel Core i5 6300U processor up to 2.4GHz with 16GB DDR4 memory and a 128GB SSD. Windows 10 Home comes pre-installed alongside integrated WiFi and a webcam for video calls.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The ultrabook chassis manages heat from the Intel Core i5 6300U during typical office workloads without excessive fan noise. The 128GB solid-state drive operates silently and draws less power than a mechanical drive. This combination supports steady performance for document editing, web browsing and video conferencing throughout the working day.

Upgrade path from older laptops

This model replaces ageing notebooks that still rely on spinning hard drives or less than 16GB of memory. The jump is worth it when faster boot times, quicker application launches and smoother multitasking become daily requirements. Buyers who need more internal storage or a dedicated graphics card should look at larger workstation alternatives.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 128GB SSD in the T460s and what step is often missed?

The 128GB SSD fits the internal M.2 slot; the step often missed is securing the drive with the small retention screw before reassembling the base cover.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 16GB DDR4 is soldered to the board, so it cannot be upgraded or replaced separately; only a full motherboard swap would change the memory amount.

What limit appears first on the i5-6300U at 2.4GHz during sustained loads?

The CPU thermal throttle limit is reached first, causing the 2.4GHz turbo to drop to the base clock until the chassis dissipates enough heat.
