ThinkPad T470s Business Laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T470s is a 14-inch business laptop equipped with an Intel Core i5-6300U processor, 20GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB NVMe SSD. It ships with Windows 7 Professional and includes an LTE-A WWAN card for mobile connectivity. The matte IPS display runs at 1920 x 1080 resolution and the chassis weighs between 2 and 2.9 lbs.

Upgrade From Older Ultraportables

This model replaces ageing 14-inch ultraportables that rely on mechanical hard drives and 8GB or less memory. The NVMe SSD cuts boot time by roughly three times and file opens by about 30 percent compared with a regular HDD. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C adds 40 Gbps bandwidth for docks or external storage. The jump is worth it when daily workflows demand faster storage, more memory headroom and built-in LTE.

Mobile Professionals Needing Legacy OS

The T470s suits professionals who need a lightweight, durable machine with Windows 7 Pro for legacy application compatibility. Fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard and UltraNav pointing enhance security and usability on the road. Buyers who require a touchscreen, a newer Windows version or more than 256GB internal storage should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What screw pattern does the 256GB NVMe SSD use?

The drive uses the standard M.2 2280 key-M slot; remove the single retaining screw, slide the module in at an angle, then press down and refasten that same screw.

Which driver must be loaded first when installing Windows 7 Pro on the i5-6300U platform?

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver for the NVMe controller must be injected into the installer or supplied via USB before the setup can see the 256GB SSD.

When should the 20GB DDR4 memory be reseated or replaced?

Reseat the SO-DIMMs if the system shows memory errors in diagnostics; replace them only if errors persist after testing each module individually.
