14" WQHD Business Laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T470s is a 14-inch laptop with a 2560 x 1440 IPS matte display. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-7500U processor reaching 3.5 GHz. The system includes 12GB DDR4 memory and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. Security features comprise a fingerprint reader and smart card reader.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

This laptop suits professionals needing a lightweight 2.9 lbs device with high-resolution screen and fast NVMe storage for office productivity. It does not suit buyers who want a touchscreen, discrete graphics for rendering, user-replaceable memory modules, or Thunderbolt 3 connectivity.

Deciding Specification: 12GB Soldered Memory

The 12GB DDR4 memory is not upgradeable, so the installed capacity is permanent. Buyers anticipating future memory-intensive workloads must ensure 12GB is sufficient at purchase. This constraint outweighs the fast processor or NVMe speed for long-term usability.

Questions about this item

What type of RAM slot must be free to add memory to the 12GB DDR4 already installed?

The laptop uses DDR4 memory; the 12GB configuration typically occupies one SO-DIMM slot leaving a second slot available for expansion.

Can the Thunderbolt 3 port drive a legacy DisplayPort monitor at 2560x1440 without an active adapter?

Thunderbolt 3 carries DisplayPort 1.2 signalling so a passive USB-C to DisplayPort cable will drive the 2560x1440 resolution at 60 Hz.

How can I verify the 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD is running at its rated speed after a fresh Windows 10 Pro install?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, choose the SSD and confirm the link speed shows PCIe and active throughput reaches the expected range during large file copies.
