Business laptop with 20GB RAM

The Lenovo ThinkPad T470s is a 14.0" business laptop running Windows 7 Professional. It uses an Intel Core i5-6300U processor with 20GB DDR4 memory and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The matte IPS display shows 1920 x 1080 resolution without touch input. It suits professionals who need a lightweight, durable machine for office applications and travel.

Passive cooling and 40 Gbps port

The slim chassis relies on internal thermal design rather than large vents, keeping noise low during typical office workloads. The Intel Core i5-6300U runs at up to 3.0GHz within a low power envelope suited to all-day battery use. A Thunderbolt 3 USB-C connection delivers 40 Gbps bandwidth for fast external storage or docks.

Fingerprint login and military testing

The integrated fingerprint reader enables Windows Hello sign-in without typing a password. The keyboard includes backlighting for dim environments. Lenovo validates each unit with 12 military-standard tests and over 200 quality checks covering shock, vibration and temperature extremes. Bluetooth 4.1 handles wireless peripherals.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2TB PCIe NVMe SSD in the T470s and which step do people skip?

The drive slots into the M.2 socket and is secured with a single screw; the step often missed is removing the battery connector first to avoid shorting the board.

What maintenance or replacement will the 20GB DDR4 memory and 2TB NVMe SSD need later?

The memory is soldered and not upgradeable; the NVMe drive can be swapped for a larger one, and the internal coin-cell battery will eventually need replacement.

What limit appears first on the i5-6300U during sustained loads?

The dual-core 3.0 GHz CPU hits its thermal ceiling quickly, causing clock throttling that caps performance before the 200 MB/s SSD or Thunderbolt link saturates.
