ThinkPad T480 14.0" HD laptop

This Lenovo ThinkPad T480 is a 14.0 inch HD laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7200U dual-core processor running at 2.50 GHz with a turbo frequency of 3.10 GHz. It comes with 8GB DDR4 memory and a new 128GB SATA SSD. The unit is sold without an operating system.

Suitable for office tasks and OS flexibility

The 1366 x 768 non-touch display and Intel HD Graphics 620 handle everyday productivity and web browsing. Two memory slots support up to 32 GB total RAM for future upgrades. Buyers who need a higher-resolution screen, discrete graphics or a pre-installed operating system should look elsewhere.

128GB SATA SSD boot drive

The included 128GB 2.5 inch SATA solid-state drive provides the primary storage and determines boot speed. No additional hard drive is present, so capacity is limited to this single drive unless the buyer adds another device.

Questions about this item

What does the 2.5" SATA interface mean for the 128GB SSD's real-world speed?

The 128GB SSD uses a 2.5" SATA connection, so its maximum throughput is capped by the SATA link rather than a faster PCIe bus.

Will the 14.0" chassis accept a second memory module to reach the 32GB maximum?

Yes, the laptop has two DDR4 slots total; one is occupied by the 8GB stick, so you can add a second module to expand toward the 32GB limit.

Does the missing operating system change the initial boot process after I install my own SSD?

With no OS pre-installed, the system will boot straight to the BIOS or your installation media; you must provide a bootable USB drive with Windows or Linux to begin setup.
