ThinkPad T480 14.0" HD display

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480 is a 14.0 inch laptop with an HD panel showing 1366 x 768 resolution. It runs on an Intel Core i5-7200U processor with a 2.50 GHz base clock and 3.10 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 8GB of DDR4 memory and a new 1TB 2.5 inch SATA SSD. No operating system is installed.

Suits office users needing legacy OS control

This laptop fits buyers who want a traditional business chassis and the freedom to install their own operating system. The dual memory slots support up to 32 GB of RAM for future expansion. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles basic video output only. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a higher resolution screen or a dedicated graphics processor should consider other models.

No operating system included

The single specification that decides fit is the absence of any pre-installed operating system. The purchaser must acquire and install Windows, Linux or another OS before the machine is usable. This requirement affects every workflow from first boot.

Questions about this item

How do I install the operating system on this ThinkPad T480 since it arrives with no OS?

Create a bootable USB drive with your chosen OS, enter the BIOS via F1 at startup, set the USB as first boot device, then follow the on-screen installer prompts to the 1TB SATA SSD.

What memory upgrades does the T480 support later on?

The laptop has two DDR4 slots and supports up to 32 GB total, so you can add or replace modules to reach that limit.

What thermal limit appears first during long workloads on the i5-7200U?

The dual-core 2.50 GHz processor with 3.10 GHz turbo will hit its thermal ceiling before the Intel HD Graphics 620 becomes a bottleneck.
