ThinkPad T480 for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480 is a 14.0-inch laptop with a 1366 x 768 HD non-touch display. It runs on an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor at 1.70 GHz with a turbo frequency of 3.60 GHz. The system includes 32GB DDR4 memory and a new 500GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD. No operating system is installed.

Thermals and power in daily use

The Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated GPU handles routine tasks without a discrete graphics card. The low-power U-series processor helps keep heat and fan noise modest during typical office workloads. Power draw remains contained thanks to the efficient 8th-generation architecture and solid-state storage.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous heavy workloads the quad-core CPU can maintain higher clocks up to 3.60 GHz within its thermal envelope. The 32GB DDR4 memory ceiling is already reached, so memory-intensive tasks will not hit a capacity limit. The 500GB SATA SSD provides consistent throughput without thermal throttling concerns.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SATA SSD and what step is often missed?

The 500GB SSD fits in the 2.5" SATA bay; the step often missed is securing the drive with the caddy screws before closing the chassis.

What maintenance will the 32GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 32GB DDR4 is already at the 32 GB maximum supported, so no memory upgrade is possible; only occasional dust removal from the slots is required.

What limit appears first during sustained use on the Intel UHD Graphics 620?

The Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and thermal headroom with the i5-8350U, so GPU throttling under heavy graphics load is the first limit reached.
