ThinkPad T480 for OS-free deployments

This 14.0-inch FHD laptop ships with an Intel Core i5-8250U processor at 1.60 GHz, 16 GB DDR4 memory and a new 500 GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD. No operating system is pre-installed so IT teams can load a standard corporate image or a preferred Linux distribution immediately.

Teams that want a managed Windows image out

Buyers who need a licensed Windows installation ready to use should choose a different SKU, as this unit requires a separate licence and manual setup. Organisations that rely on touch input or discrete graphics for creative workloads will also find the non-touch panel and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 limiting.

Fits standard 14-inch fleets and frees imaging time

The chassis matches existing ThinkPad T480 deployments, uses DDR4 memory that can be expanded to 32 GB across two slots and accepts a 2.5-inch SATA drive bay. Supplying the hardware without an OS removes the step of wiping a factory image, letting administrators apply a gold master directly and reducing per-device provisioning time.

Questions about this item

Do I need to buy an operating system separately to use the ThinkPad T480?

Yes, the laptop ships with no operating system installed, so you must supply and install Windows, Linux or another OS yourself before the machine is usable.

Will my existing 2.5-inch SATA drives work inside this T480?

The 500 GB SSD uses a 2.5-inch SATA interface, so any compatible 2.5-inch SATA drive can be swapped in or added if the second bay is free.

How can I verify the 16 GB of DDR4 memory is recognised after I install my OS?

Open Task Manager or your OS system information panel; it should report 16 GB of DDR4 and show two memory slots with a 32 GB maximum supported.
