Ready for work

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch business laptop with a matte IPS display at 1920x1080 resolution. It runs Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i5-8250U processor with a base clock of 1.60 GHz and up to 3.40 GHz. The system includes 12 GB of DDR4 memory and a 180 GB SSD. It weighs up to 2.9 lbs.

Ports and expansion

Two Thunderbolt ports provide 40 Gbps data and video bandwidth while supplying power to connected devices. Four USB ports and Bluetooth 4.1 handle peripherals without a dock. A 4-in-1 card reader accepts common media formats. The UltraNav touchpad and backlit keyboard support input in low light. Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics drive the internal screen and external monitors.

Thermals and power

The chassis passes 21 MIL-SPEC tests for reliability in harsh environments. A match-on-chip fingerprint reader and ThinkShutter webcam cover add physical security without extra bulk. The 64-bit operating system manages the 620 integrated graphics and processor within the thin enclosure. Fan noise stays low during typical office workloads.

Questions about this item

How does the Intel Core i5-8250U behave when it hits its 3.4 GHz turbo ceiling during long workloads?

The processor runs at a 1.60 GHz base frequency and can reach 3.4 GHz turbo; sustained loads will sit at or below that ceiling depending on thermal headroom.

What fan noise and surface temperatures should I expect when the laptop runs all day on the 14" IPS FHD panel?

The 14.0" 1920 x 1080 matte display and integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics keep power draw modest, so fan noise stays low and chassis warmth remains comfortable during extended use.

Which peripherals can I plug straight into the Thunderbolt 3 and four USB ports without buying extra adapters?

Thunderbolt 3 at 40 Gbps drives docks, monitors and storage, while the four USB ports accept standard Type-A devices such as mice, keyboards and flash drives directly.
