Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8250U processor running at 1.60 GHz with a maximum turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz. It includes 12 GB of DDR4 memory and a 180 GB SSD for the operating system and applications. The 1920 x 1080 IPS matte display provides wide viewing angles without glare. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed. A fingerprint reader and webcam cover support secure login and privacy.

Thermals and acoustics in typical workloads

The chassis has passed 21 MIL-SPEC tests for reliability in harsh physical and environmental conditions. Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics keep power draw modest during office tasks, video playback and light multitasking. Fan noise remains low during typical productivity workloads such as document editing and web browsing. The 64-bit operating system manages processor states to balance performance and thermal output.

Bundled security and connectivity features

A match-on-chip fingerprint reader with anti-spoofing technology authenticates credentials locally to protect data. ThinkShutter provides a physical webcam cover that slides open and closed. Thunderbolt over USB-C delivers up to 40 Gbps data transfer and dual video bandwidth while supplying power to connected devices. Bluetooth 4.1 supports wireless peripherals. A 4-in-1 card reader and backlit keyboard complete the feature set.

Questions about this item

How do I install the DDR4 memory module and what step do people often miss?

The 12GB DDR4 is soldered on the motherboard so there is no user-installable slot; the common mistake is trying to open the case to add a stick that cannot be fitted.

What maintenance or replacement will the 180GB SSD need later?

The 180GB SSD has no moving parts; the only future action is a drive swap if capacity runs out, after cloning the Windows 10 Pro install to a larger unit.

What limit appears first on the i5-8250U during sustained loads?

The 1.60 GHz base clock drops under thermal limits before the 3.40 GHz turbo can hold, so extended heavy work throttles to the lower sustained speed.
