Business ultraportable with 2TB NVMe

The ThinkPad T480s combines an Intel Core i5-8250U processor, 16GB DDR4 memory and a 2TB PCIe NVMe drive in a 14.0" IPS matte panel at 1920 x 1080. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed. The 1.60 GHz quad-core CPU reaches 3.40 GHz, while integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics handle daily workloads.

Thunderbolt 3 and fingerprint reader

A single Thunderbolt 3 port supplies up to 40 Gbps data, dual 4K video bandwidth and power delivery through USB-C. The match-on-chip fingerprint reader authenticates log-in credentials locally, and ThinkShutter provides a physical webcam cover. Four USB ports and Bluetooth 4.1 round out the connectivity.

Windows 7 limits on modern hardware

Windows 7 Professional no longer receives security updates, so the operating system cannot meet current compliance or threat-protection requirements. The 16GB memory is soldered and cannot be expanded. Thunderbolt 3 uses the original 40 Gbps standard, not the later Thunderbolt 4 specification.

Questions about this item

Will the soldered 16 GB DDR4 memory need to be upgraded later?

The 16 GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be upgraded; only the NVMe SSD slot is user-replaceable.

What limits the i5-8250U during long workloads?

The 1.60 GHz base clock and integrated UHD 620 graphics throttle under sustained load to stay within the thermal envelope.

How loud and hot does the T480s get when running all day?

Dual fans keep the chassis warm but not hot; noise stays at a low office hum even during extended use.
