Business ultraportable with Windows 7 Pro

The ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8250U processor running at 1.60 GHz with a maximum turbo of 3.4 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 500 GB SSD. The matte IPS display delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed.

Thunderbolt 3 at 40 Gbps via USB-C

A single USB-C port provides Thunderbolt 3 connectivity at 40 Gbps, enabling high-speed data transfer, dual 4K video output and power delivery through one cable. The laptop includes four USB ports in total. Wireless connectivity uses Bluetooth 4.1. This interface mix suits docking scenarios but offers only one Thunderbolt lane.

16 GB soldered memory cannot be upgraded

The 16 GB of DDR4 RAM is soldered to the board with no SO-DIMM slot, so the memory capacity is fixed for the life of the device. Buyers who need more than 16 GB for virtual machines, large datasets or future workloads should consider a different platform. The 500 GB SSD is replaceable.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 16 GB DDR4 memory or add more later?

The laptop ships with 16 GB DDR4 soldered to the board; there is no free SO-DIMM slot, so the capacity cannot be increased after purchase.

What does the 3.4 GHz turbo figure mean for daily workloads?

The Core i5-8250U can reach 3.4 GHz on short bursts, but sustained loads will run closer to the 1.60 GHz base clock due to thermal limits in the thin chassis.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port actually cap at in real use?

The Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port supports up to 40 Gbps, enabling two 4K displays, fast external storage and charging through a single cable.
