The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8250U processor running at 1.60 GHz with a turbo frequency of 3.4 GHz. It comes with 24 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB SSD. The 14.0-inch IPS display delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution on a matte panel. Connectivity includes Bluetooth 4.1 and Thunderbolt via USB-C, plus a fingerprint reader and 4G LTE WWAN. It ships new with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit installed.

Mobile professionals needing legacy OS support

This configuration suits mobile professionals who require a lightweight chassis at 2.9 lbs and the integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics for standard office workloads. The matte FHD screen and UltraNav touchpad support extended typing sessions. Buyers who need a current supported operating system or a touchscreen interface should look elsewhere. The 21 MIL-SPEC tests indicate durability for frequent travel.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating system

The decisive specification is the pre-installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating system, which determines software compatibility and security update status. This 64-bit environment supports the installed 24 GB memory capacity and the Intel Core i5-8250U architecture. Verify that your required applications and peripheral drivers are certified for this platform before purchase.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 24 GB DDR4 memory or look for a 16 GB version of this ThinkPad T480s?

The 24 GB DDR4 configuration gives you more headroom for virtual machines and large datasets, while a 16 GB model would handle typical office workloads but leave less room for future needs.

What does the 3.40 GHz turbo figure mean for daily performance on the Core i5-8250U?

The processor runs at a 1.60 GHz base and can reach 3.40 GHz on active cores for short bursts, so single-threaded tasks stay responsive while sustained loads settle at lower speeds.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port actually cap at for data and video on this laptop?

The USB-C port supports up to 40 Gbps data throughput and can drive two 4K displays simultaneously, while also delivering power to charge the system.
